Community Development was the main focus of S.T.E.P.'s activity when established in 1997, with grassroots work completed in marginalised areas of South Tyrone. S.T.E.P.'s ethos of empowerment is directed at sectors and individuals in the community who require advice, guidance and training to allow them to full participate in the socio-economic life of South Tyrone.
Community development is the process of developing active and sustainable communities based on social justice and mutual respect. |

S.T.E.P.'s Community Development team is involved in a number of programmes designed to promote inclusion and participation of all members of our community.
The team is involved in community activities in the following ways:
Establishing and developing networks among communities;
Working with people to define and deal with occurring problems rather than seeking for easy solutions.
Encourages people to contribute to life-long learning by creating opportunities for them to share the experiences and build confidence; especially for those with no formal education or qualifications gained abroad.
Strengthens democracy among communities raising awareness of the issues which affect their lives and encouraging them to take action to tackle those.
